It just happens that a lot of people like calamity the way it is. Terraria mods aren't really expected to be exactly like terraria like fan videos aren't like the og anime. Calamity is just the most popular because most of fans like it's experience (visual and gameplay).

We all know that calamity is hard, and it is hard by design. There's a lot of content gated behind revengence/death/whatever modes. But not everyone wants to or can endure the difficulty. That's why I've always been pairing calamity with some other mods that aid the gameplay. My personal experience:

The tModLoader tool is downloadable on Steam and functions as a separate launcher for the game in your library. Backup Existing Saves, Or Start A New World
