Melee, it's the most saturated class and has the best gear and the most fun progression, it's THE class for calamity. Melee- tanky and a power trip outside of high difficulties. Ranged- Massive DPS, best if you can dodge. Mage- versatility, weapons for every playstyle.
Dec 15, 2018 · Yes, Calamity is very difficult. The mod is designed for people who think that vanilla is too easy. A beginner can play it, of course, as long as they don't mind dying a lot.
Jan 31, 2021 · The World is now just as much a character as the new NPCs, enemies, Bosses & Player Character. Aside from a few egregious additions, the overall experience is very balanced now & there is really no right way to play anymore. "The devil is in the details" & this is a pretty consistent theme in 1.4.1.
The calamity devs basically had to make two classes, what with the non existence of summoner in vanilla. while melee tends to suck early game, late game it's very satisfying, ranger is probably best from beginning-end, because most other classes struggle early game.
Sep 27, 2021 · Calamity is a good mod and it's usually the intro to modded Terraria for most people since it's so popular. It's the best mod for people looking for a real challenge in terms of difficulty and that mostly want to focus on big boss fights (it also has an amazing soundtrack.

I think it depends on what you actually consider fun. Ranged gives you the hardest challenge, the DPS until you get to the very endgame weapons is somewhat lower than other classes and you also need to constantly aim while dodging unless you are willing to use only homing bullets.
