Torches can now be crafted using charcoal, making them the first renewable light source in the game that is also obtainable and permanent. Torches can no longer be placed on leaves in fast graphics anymore. Torches can no longer be placed on glowstone.

Now currently you place a torch and it's forever lit. No need to return, but if torches went out. Stuff could spawn, you would have to relight things and carry a lantern, it would prevent the lighting up of whole cave systems, but the torches would stay in case needed. It's a great idea, pumpkins I guess would work the same way. But dunno.
