If you think about it, if they took more time to flesh out a campaign against a alien race with a scion/human alliance and played with the possibilities of the vehicles and weapons it'd make a sweet game.

The first game is one of my favorites ever. It totally felt like I was playing some secret moon base battles against the USSR. Very cool atmosphere. The 2nd game was also good... but like you said, didn't really have the same charm. The difficulty spikes sucked too.
