Dec 1, 2020 · I didn’t know until I did some research that Battlezone is often considered the first virtual reality arcade video game. The home version doesn’t feel like virtual reality, but I can definitely see how the original 1980 arcade version can be seen as a “3-D success”.
Oct 28, 2016 · Atari’s Battlezone arcade game released in 1981 was an immediate classic. This first-person wire frame vector shoot-em-up, puts the player at the controls of a tank wandering the wilderness of a futuristic-looking battlefield, shooting down enemy tanks, UFOs and missiles.
With Battlezone becoming widly successful, Atarisoft ported the game to many home consoles and computers around 1983. The original PC was quite close to the arcade version, the graphics and movement were sufficient but the game lacked sound effects during gameplay.
