The movement is deemed to have originated with Donald McGavran. He was a missionary to India who became a specialist church growth educator through his research on the mission field (Pointer 1984, p.14).

    • Intellectual growth. Here lies the primary responsibility of pastors as teachers and under-shepherds of God’s flock. Their duties are to feed the flock so it may grow.

When a church becomes strong in the disciplines of the faith and is contagious with Christ, then people will be attracted to that church.
