Aug 6, 2024 · Citra, an open-source emulator for 3DS games, was discontinued in March 2024 after legal action from Nintendo; it remains available through archives and has a successor in Lime3DS. Despite Citra's discontinuation, emulators remain legal, and Citra can still be installed on PCs and Android devices from the Internet Archive.

"Ending support" means that they won't be releasing new updates for these emulators neither make them available for download. But, if you already have them installed in your PC, both of them will still work, they just won't be updated (officially) anymore, so this probably means that new games that end up being released for the Switch might not work with the last emulator version.
Citra was still receiving dozens of developers making major fixes and improvements every month. Almost all of that is going to cease. I'm surprised so many people are nonchalant about this enormous wave of destruction that Nintendo has dealt to the emulation community.
Citra was initially created by a developer known by their online handle as “bunnei”. The project began in 2014 and was publicly released in its early stages, attracting a community of developers interested in 3DS emulation. The name “Citra” or codename Project Citrus is derived from CTR, which is the model name of the original 3DS.
That sucks. 3DS emulation lived and died on Citra and now it's getting caught in the crossfire thanks to Citra and Yuzu sharing developers. They played with fire and now emulation's taking a nasty hit for the 3DS scene until a successor arrives.
