Nov 30, 2023 · Launching today, Season of Discovery is the closest thing to a “Classic Plus” experience that we’ve gotten so far. Blizzard is taking the Classic Era and modifying it with discoverable abilities, time-gated level caps, and special raids.
I see some streamers claim that the Classic Era is not worth playing right now. I would like to play Classic Era because Cataclysm doesn't really appeal to me, and I have heard that Season of Discovery (SoD) has some flaws, and its player base is declining.
As someone who plays both retail and classic I absolutely think it's worth it to start fresh on either. Just remember that both are different MMO experiences. Classic has a very slow progression and questing is tedious, but some people enjoy it.
Classic is very active if you play on a popular server, but doing things like low level dungeons and group quests while levelling might be difficult if you're playing alone. The reality is a lot of people level via paid mage boosts, removing a lot of players from the normal dungeon group pool.
