Jan 16, 2017 · Ebey was a prominent citizen in the early history of Washington Territory. The landing on his property was one of the principal docks on the west side of Whidbey Island. Ebey was instrumental in locating the Customs House in the Puget Sound region in Port Townsend, contributing to that town's good fortunes in the latter half of the 19th century.
Currently, the signage and historical record of Ebey’s Landing has focused predominantly on the white colonial settlement of Whidbey Island. As you walk along the trails, signs amplify a Western perspective of the landscape by primarily narrating the arrival of settlers, the life of the Ebey family and the agricultural development of the area.
