In 1850 Isaac Ebey (1818-1857), the first permanent white settler on Whidbey Island, claimed one square mile (640 acres) of mostly prairie land on a bluff overlooking Admiralty Inlet on the island's east side, 320 acres in his name and 320 acres in the name of his wife, Rebecca, who at the time remained in Missouri.

  5. Currently, the signage and historical record of Ebey’s Landing has focused predominantly on the white colonial settlement of Whidbey Island. As you walk along the trails, signs amplify a Western perspective of the landscape by primarily narrating the arrival of settlers, the life of the Ebey family and the agricultural development of the area.
