My real issue with it is that it's sprinkled into battles and ends up detracting from the seriousness of the battles, especially with something as epic as the Tartaros arc. But still, I fully recommend watching it. I've had a blast watching it and even filler episodes have been quite enjoyable.
Fairy Tail can be a good series(with it's cute and bad-ass characters) since it can be emotional as well as a light hearted anime at the same time. But this would only be the case if you have the patience to wait till the Grand Magic Games arc.
