Gen V finale was actually very good. The rest of the season had its ups and downs, but holy shit that finale was great. The ending completely subverted my expectations leaving me in shock after the episode was finished. Hope season 2 follows in episode 8's footsteps. I’d rather have a tight 40 than a bloated 60.

The last few episodes of Gen V have been the proverbial calm before the storm of the season 1 finale. They weren’t as bloody or graphic as earlier parts of the season, with their exploding genitalia and incredible shrunken antics – episode 8 was always poised to be the height of savage supe-on-human brutality. Loaded with The Boys-style violence thanks to a jailbreak in The Woods, “Guardians of Godolkin” drives a deeper wedge between supes and humans. Season 1 goes out with the action-forward bang fans have been waiting for since Marie Moreau discovered the dean’s secret lab, and nails thematic payoffs that lead directly into the upcoming fourth season of Gen V’s parent series.
“Guardians of Godolkin” cleverly shows what happens when supes who’ve been branded as outcasts find a sense of camaraderie and community in redirecting that hatred. It’s a continuation of the brilliant social commentary that boiled over in the last episode when Cate committed cold-blooded murder; Gen V has a knack for depicting the thin line between a hero’s origin story and a villain's. Maddie Phillips commits to an excellent off-the-deep-end version of Cate, who was once locked away from the world and abandoned with no love. Asa Germann mines harrowing emotional depths playing a ticking time bomb previously punished for his superhuman abilities, especially in a hallucinated conversation with his dead brother. When we see Homelander, we see an archetypal villain – what Gen V does best in its finale is empathize with Sam and Cate, stewing in their complications rather than labeling them pure evil.
Gen V’s first season closes by answering enough lingering questions to make its storytelling journey feel complete. “Guardians of Godolkin” spends little time incorporating The Boys until completely necessary – Gen V is first and foremost about the Godolkin characters we’ve come to adore. It’s rated “M” for “Mature” given all the squishy guts now s...

Nov 3, 2023 · A lot of things, potentially. We know that Gen V ‘s season finale is essentially doing a handoff to The Boys Season 4, and the end of The Boys Season 4 will do the same for Gen V Season 2. The two big things we expect will play into the new season if The Boys are Dr. Cardosa’s (Marco Pigossi) virus and Homelander’s new world order.
Nov 3, 2023 · Neuman acquired the Supe-killing virus from Cardosa and popped his head. Cate killed Indira Shetty for using the Supes as guinea pigs. The final episode of the first season of Gen V makes this whole endeavor seem like an elaborate way of setting up the events of the fourth season of The Boys. So, let’s talk about it.
