I can understand why you feel this way, because the universe truly is so vast and complex that it staggers the imagination. And you aren’t the first person to wonder about this; thousands of years ago, the Psalmist asked, “When I consider your heavens … what is man that you are mindful of him?” (Psalm 8:3-4).
A more plausible interpretation of the evidence—or so the skeptic's argument goes—is that there is no God at all, and that the universe is just big. Unbelievers often take this reasoning one step further and ask, if God did not create life on earth, but it simply arose on its own, then surely elsewhere in the vast universe, life has arisen as well.
