There were multiple, the earliest scene in the multiple continuities that all tie back in to Godzilla (1954) shows that there was another Godzilla. Apparently there was 2. That's the best answer. They say in Raids Again that it's another Godzilla.
Godzilla Raids Again thoughts after watching. I thought it was a fun movie that was a surprising one hour romp, the pace of the first half of the film was crazy, I didn't think they'd have so much monster fight time and have Anguirus gone 35 minutes into a 65 minute movie, It definitely has not aged well, not as much as the original film a year ...
Because, why are Anguirus and Godzilla fighting in this ONE movie and never again(in the showa continuity) and Godzilla '55 doesn't feel like the same Godzilla from '64-'75, but it can't be the OG because there's no way he's coming back from the oxygen destroyer, so this guy came out of nowhere, also no plot details would be missed if I did a showa era marathon and skipped this one
