Feb 28, 2019 · Orchestra was the only instrumental music program available for students until marching band was offered in 1930. During the next nine decades, the instrumental music director directed the band as well as the orchestra, but some years a separate orchestra teacher was hired.
Grossmont High School is a public high school located in Eastern San Diego County, California. Opened in 1920, it is the oldest public high school in East County and the first of twelve high schools currently in the Grossmont Union High School District .
Many traditions are no longer continued at Grossmont (the Christmas Pageant); some new ones have been added (the “Every 15-Minutes” program); and many remain (Circle G, Daisy Chain, sports programs, the Red Robe Choir, music and drama, Girls’ League, Boys’ Federation, school awards).
During his tenure at Grossmont High School, Jim Nichols established an incredible legacy of excellence. The California State Legislature twice commended Jim for his superior bands, a result of Jim’s enthusiasm and dedication to instrumental music.
