  1. I’ll add to what everyone has been saying - 100% yes books are better. Other than all the plot intricacies that are way better explained in the books, my favorite part about the books is the characters. I LOVE book Harry.

Alan Rickman's portrayal of Severus Snape is one of the most iconic roles in movies. In the books, Snape is ruthless, mean, and abusive, which makes him hard to redeem at the end of the series. However, the Harry Potter movies created a more toned-down Snape. In the films, Snape is a stern and difficult teacher who clearly is resentful of Harry's f...

While many people didn't like the romantic interactions in the last two Harry Potter films, at least they're better than their portrayal in the books. In the films, Hermione and Ron, for example, have chemistry from the beginning, and the audience can see their relationship develop. Tom Felton's portrayal of Draco Malfoy is why people love this character. In the movies, Draco is more morally ambiguous than evil. In The Sorcerer's Stone, he even has a couple of funny scenes with Harry in the Forbidden Forest. The character is petty and cunning in a childish way, but not evil. However, in the Harry Potterbooks, Draco is extremel...

While the books are clear that Harry, Hermione, and Ron care deeply about each other, it's rare to have descriptions of these three characters being affectionate with each other. In fact, they seem cold and distant. On top of that, Harry and Ron are usually mean to Hermione. However, in the films, there are a lot of scenes where Harry, Ron, and Her...

In the Harry Potter books, Neville is described as pathetic, but in the films, he's portrayed more like a quirky, clumsy kid. Most of his scenes are actually funny, even if they entailed something silly happening to Neville. However, in the books, it seems that Harry spends most of his time feeling sorry for him. Professor Trelawney is one of the best-adapted Harry Potter characters. She's over-the-top and histrionic in both the films and the books, but the films give the audience a more relatable character. In the books, it seems that no one truly cares about Trelawney at Hogwarts, not even Dumbledore. However, in the movies, despite Trelawney's antics, sh...

One of the best changes in the Harry Potter films is Hedwig's dead. In the books, Hedwig is killed by a random Avada Kedavra while sitting in her cage, but in the films, she saves Harry's life. While many people don't like it when films are not completely "faithful" to their source, in this case, it's safe to say that this change was necessary. In ...

J.K. Rowling tries her best to describe the Harry Potter world, but in the end, an image says more than a thousand words. The films include scenes like Harry trying candy with his friends in The Prisoner of Azkaban or the chocolate frog jumping out of the window in The Sorcerer's Stonethat perfectly captures the sense of the magic of the Wizarding ...

People who haven't read the books may not know that Harry puts the Elder Wand back in Dumbledore's tomb, where Voldemort stole it. However, the film portrays Harry breaking the wand, rendering it forever useless. Most fans thought this was a better development. It doesn't make sense for Harry to put the wand in the very same place where it was alre...

    • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The first entry in the series was a landmark title in the fantasy genre, and eventually it managed to even grow into a media empire that is enjoyed by millions across the world.
    • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Chamber of Secrets may be the weakest book in the series, but it’s still quite a fun read that holds up to this day.
    • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The third book in the series, Prisoner of Azkaban introduced characters and plot points that would go on to shape the future of Harry Potter.
    • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The fourth book in the series sees Harry and his friends in the midst of two major events in the Wizarding World: the Quidditch World Cup and the Triwizard Tournament.
  2. Everything there was better than the book. I loved how Slughorn knew Lily died because the fishbowl was empty. In the books Lily seems more like another prize to slughorn, in the movies we get shown that slughorn does care a lot about his students

    • Rupert Grint As Ron Weasley. As expressed with abundant clarity in Return to Hogwarts, Rupert Grint was Ron Weasley. He was the perfect fit for the character not only due to his acting ability but also because of his own personality.
    • Cormac McLaggen. The series is known for reaching darker points as it progresses, so by The Half-Blood Prince it was necessary for the films to take advantage of a lesser villain from the books for comedic relief.
    • Character Attire. To bring the Wizarding World to life properly, it was essential for certain changes to be made - this includes tweaks to characters' costumes.
    • The Music. An aspect of the films that fans believed truly brought the world to life was the music. Led by the great John Williams' classic jingle in the first three films, followed by epic new approaches in the later installments by composers Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hopper, and Alexandre Desplat.
  3. First things first, yes, the books are superior. But there are things that I think the movies improved upon and just further added to this wonderful world. I like to think that the changes and additions to the movies compliment the original series: • Snape's last words to Harry. "You have your mother's eyes".
