  4. Our teacher read books 1 through 3 to class when I was 7/8 and I loved them (to the point my parents had to buy them so I could read ahead). I don't think I would have been able to follow it very well much earlier though. On a side note - the illustrated Harry Potter is beautiful and I feel like it was well worth the money I spent on it.

Mar 24, 2014 · On a side note: the two Harry Potter tours we created for the kids in London (Harry Potter sites around London and visiting the Harry Potter movie set) were both done when the kids were on Book Three. It’s possible to do both with a much younger kid who is in the middle of the series without giving away anything from the later books.
