TIL in the Lorax (2012) by Illumination, "How Bad Can I Be?" only exists in the film because the original, "Biggering", was not considered palatable because of it's much darker commentary on big business, anti-corporatism and greed as the author (Dr. Seuss.) intended.
The movies aren't outright terrible, (except maybe The Lorax, but that might be more bad than terrible) but they also aren't very memorable or interesting. The animation is bland, the scripts are bland, the characters are bland.

I don't even consider Illumination movies to be bad, just kind of generic and mostly boring. Every movie feels soulless, and like the writing crew are just there for a paycheck. Its like all the talent comes from the animation department alone.
