Sep 5, 2023 · Mug Root Beer contains alcohol. False. Many people have mistakenly associated root beer with alcoholic drinks, and sometimes it spins out of control and leads to heated discussions. For example, in 2018, a cashier at a supermarket in Cabanatuan City mistook Mug for an alcoholic beverage and refused to allow it to be sold during a liquor ban.
The major producers of root beer include A&W, Barq's, Dad's, Hires, and Mug. Root beer cannot make you drunk. Root beer made by the traditional process contains 2% alcohol, but sometimes, more alcohol may be added to make it a stronger alcoholic drink.
Most root beers made in this fashion (by beer brewers) come out to a very small alcohol by volume usually less than 2%. But most of what sold on the shelves in retail stores is non-alcoholic and involves no fermentation. They are simply carbonated soda drinks with flavoring added.
Recently discovered Aldi's root beer is surprisingly good. I'd pick that over Mug now. I'm usually cautious with store brand drinks, but Aldi definitely passed the test. My favorites are probably Abita, A&W, Stewart's or Virgil's. It's hard to pick one favorite.
