If you’re planning on spending lots of time visiting the tall trees in Port Renfrew then it’s probably not worth stopping at the not-quite-as-impressive Muir Creek. If you’ve got time to kill on your way back however, the old growth near Muir Creek is one of my favourites.
The light there at evening golden hour is breathtaking. Don’t miss Botanical Beach in Port Renfrew. You want to be there at low tide. Have really good walking shoes - flip flops are not going to cut it on the trails. While in Sooke, splurging on a meal at Sooke Harbour House is definitely worth it.
Jan 27, 2020 · For an even older geological treat, head up the road to Muir Creek. Cross To the west end of the Muir Creek bridge to park, then walk to the mouth of the estuary. At low tide, walk along the beach and you will find fossils preserved in the sandstone cliff face.

Located just a few kilometres outside of Port Renfrew on a scenic point, the tide pools at Botanical Beach are simply amazing. There is a short loop hike that passes by both Botany Bayand Botanical Beach. Despite the name, Botany Bay is more about the interesting scenery (an islet and jagged rock formations), while the beach has the best tide pools. Sombrio Beach is about 20 minutes east of Port Renfrew towards Victoria but is a definite must-see.
