The Studiocanal Mulholland Dr. 1080p blu-ray was much better than the Criterion one just because of Criterion’s sub-par encode. It’s well-documented on the blu-ray.com forums. So we’ll have to see if the 4K releases will truly be identical (Criterion has gotten better at encoding discs since around the time MD came out).
Dec 7, 2021 · The included images are not sourced from the 4K disc. Mulholland Drive was shot on 35 mm film using Panavision Panaflex Platinum cameras and has been newly scanned (by Criterion and Studiocanal in a joint venture) and restored under the watchful eye of director David Lynch and DoP Peter Deming, from the original camera elements, to form a 4K DI from which this UHD is sourced.
