Have you watched any Ingmar Bergman? Mulholland Drive is David Lynch's Neo-noir take on Bergman's film Persona. I think that Persona is a much better film but I loved Mulholland Drive and think that it definitely deserves the acclaim, especially because it's an adaptation of one of my favorite foreign films. It's my favorite Lynch film.

As a TV series, Mulholland Drive might have been compelling stuff; as a movie, in large part because of Lynch's excuse for an "ending", it's a mess. The film is structured as a mystery set in Hollywood, although, in typical Lynchian fashion, this version of Tineseltown is decidedly dark and skewed.
