Oct 12, 2001 · Mulholland Drive is a simple suspense story which is shown in different way. Director used a few cheap thrill tricks to make the story confusing and the tricks worked. I am still trying to figure the climax and will probably have to see it again to catch things I missed and which may help me understand it better.

A few films I would personally have ahead of Mulholland Drive: Hunger, Children of Men, Parasite, Pan’s Labyrinth. And a few maybes: The Social Network, Get Out, A Separation, There Will Be Blood. I do think Mulholland Drive is top ten, but more likely between 4-10 for me. 🤷🏻♂️
Worth noting it's a rough cut down version. Lynch wanted the pilot to be 124 minutes, but the network insisted on getting it down to under 90 minutes to fit a standard two hour block. This shortened version loses a lot of footage (e.g. the Winkie's scene) and was made in a rush, so features incomplete music and sound effects work.
And you have your own preference for cover art of course. But if you decide to go for the Criterion, just be aware that they are releasing their 4K UHD edition of Mulholland Drive next month, priced at only $8 more than the blu-ray (which will go down to only $5 more during the 50% sale). So I would definitely not buy the Criterion blu-ray ...
