But while the latter book remains in my top ten favorite horror novels of all time, I fear that "Night Train" will be largely forgettable. Jul 14, 2008 · In Night Train the jaded detective has a pretty good reason to be jaded after discovering the cause of her friend’s death since that death didn’t just say something about the depravity of humanity; it also said something about the state of the detective herself. So I think the potentially overdone tone was just a starting place (a great one) and Amis successfully transcended pastiche.
