Piranha Bytes is on the verge of closure after 25+ years (the process has probably been running since November 2023). The reason is the drastic cost-cutting course of the Embracer Group. Any game in an early stage of development where it is unclear whether it will be profitable upon release will be canceled.
Nordic Games gave out a press release announcing that they've made a deal with Piranha Bytes to release two new Gothic bundle packs: A Gothic 3 Enhanced Gold Edition that includes "Gothic 3 and Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods in extensively improved editions", as well as a Gothic Complete Collection that includes every Gothic game and expansion to date.

Jul 8, 2024 · We know that the plans after a potential takeover were to distance themselves from the last games produced under the leadership of Björn Pankratz (who, together with his wife, left Piranha Bytes in November last year and today announced the establishment of the Pithead studio), i.e. the Elex series, and create a new dark fantasy title on Unreal Engine 5.
ELEX II is the sequel to ELEX, the vintage open-world role-playing experience from the award-winning creators of the Gothic and Risen series, Piranha Bytes.
