A good compromise would be to find a school with a flight program, but major in something else, and minor in aviation. We had a lot of students at my school that were able to do this. Or if you just can’t help yourself, do the 4 year flight program and minor in something as a backup.

Purdue's engineering program depends on your major. It's very good for all of them, but especially AAE (and probably some others) it's near the top in the nation. Purdue will probably be a lot of work, but it's not like high school: You don't go to the same class for 5x a week for a set block of time and you can shape your schedule how you see fit.
