Go with this option if you want to be unique. Ranger, a class focused on sheer bullet speed and distance. It's actually an insufferable class later on, due to weapon focus end game not really being a thing, and has pretty low DPS over all. Go with this option if you want longer battles- wars of attrition. Mage, the most improved class overall.
Havent played ranger in calamity but heres some benefits. Ranger has a fairly stable progression with average defense and literally average dps, the weapons look cool tho. Mage, very cracked dps throughout the game but also very low defense. Prepare to have a 3000€ pc or you will lag alot from the weapons.
Ranger is not the best class, but it still has its unique stuff. But I still prefer summoner or mage. I have to say that rogue is the best class. Everything is really easy and you don't have to grind a a lot. While ranger is a good class I'd have to say that the top 3 is:

The class itself revolves a lot around movement so if you can't dodge the attacks, Ranger isn't going to feel good for you and I suggest swapping to melee.
