In the opening episode there are a few of the same characters that appear in both the Goldbergs as well as in Schooled. For example Coach Mellor (Bryan Callen) is still coaching basketball and he lends a helping hand to the new kid/teacher Lainey Lewis on teaching her what feels good in her heart and turn off the background noise.
In an era with shows like The Good Place or Brooklyn Nine Nine, AJ Michalka doesn't have the comedy chops to lead a prime time sitcom. Lainey was among the least funniest characters in The Goldbergs. This show could've worked in the mid-90s during the Blossom era but definitely not in 2019. It's not her fault.
