Ski Patrol was formed in Brixton, London in the autumn of 1979 by members of two Sunderland, UK college bands, The Wall and The Debutantes. Founding members were singer Ian Lowery and guitarist Nick Clift. They took their band name from a song on John Cale's Slow Dazzle album.
The following is an abridged version of an interview which took place in August 1981 with Ian Lowery upon the demise of his post-punk band Ski Patrol. Never having before described anything as post-punk, for Ski Patrol there is no other reference. The band clearly came from the punk era, but looked to the future to offer so much more.
In December 2018, the band was selected by Billboard as the #1 Comedy Album Artist of the year, with Cool Patrol being selected as the #1 comedy album of the year.
