Sleepers (1996) was just a great movie in every way. It wasn't the most family friendly but damn, it was riveting. Put together a great story that brings you right in from the beginning and a great cast (Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt as some of the big names) and it's a great recipe for entertainment.
Directed by: Barry Levinson. Starring: Robert De Niro, Kevin Bacon, Dustin Hoffman, Jason Patric, Brad Pitt. Genres: Legal Drama, Coming-of-Age, Crime, Drama. Rated the #122 best film of 1996, and #9139 in the greatest all-time movies (according to RYM users).
Sleepers: (John Williams) For the film adaptation of Lorenzo Carcaterra's novel, director Barry Levinson assembled an outstanding principle cast in Sleepers.The story of torture, homophobia, and vengeance claimed in the opening line of the film to be based on true events, a somewhat unsubstantiated point of controversy surrounding the film at the time of its release.
Those murderers were a product of the abusive homes they grew up in, the poverty, the abuse in the system. They were failed on so many levels. It's a miracle 2 of them graduated college and held a job, the expected outcome would be that they'd become hardened criminals.
