As someone else said, Splendor is a game where your opportunities grow as you play. With Azul, your choices get more limited. I feel like Splendor is a game where players can learn to think ahead and strategize, and Azul is a game where it’s better to have that skill going in to the game. I recommend Splendor first, then Azul as a next step.
May 25, 2015 · Splendor is an easy game to prepare. The 3 card types are simply shuffled in their individual decks and 4 cards from each deck are placed in a row face-up. These form the 12 cards in the marketplace that are on offer at any one time. The remainder of each deck is set next to its relative row.
Marvel Splendor is like the base game with 1 of the ok mini expansions built in. So it's better than base game but not quite as good as base + expansion. But I must say this: I love Splendor but my kids won't play it because it's "so boring." They do think Marvel Splendor is "really fun" despite being almost identical gameplay.
A recent Knizia, Whale Riders, is the game Splendor wants to be. But it's also not particularly social or interactive. Still, it doesn't otherwise suffer from Splendor's issues and is a very good, replayable game whereas I think Splendor is more popular than it deserves to be.
