If you're going to be doing a lot of resawing, the added flywheel-effect caused by the heavier wheels to help maintain a stronger blade speed to power through thick stock. 11-17-2010, 7:15 PM #4. Apr 18, 2006 · I bought a horizontal band saw with 12 inch wheels with one wheel cut (too small in my opinion) - and so built wheel up with a strip of mild steel bent around a brake rotor, then welded, and then heat expanded/shrunk that band onto my (too small) wheel.
