The original was a flash game that you could probably beat in a day and was quite simple. This version has more content and more mechanics and is an overall superior product. Also story.
I liked the flash game for what it was, a free game. But I did not see purchasing power behind it. What more does this offer than the flash game that would make me want to drop half the price of a full featured rpg on it?
