Jan 4, 2021 · So, yeah, not a 4k expert, but the difference was visible to an undiscerning eye. The VCS 4k was full of artifacting and a generally low bit rate, while the TV was as expected. I too wasn't expecting games to really play in 4K, but Atari is marketing it as such on the box, and even the Home screen is like trying to run Windows 10 on an old laptop.
On Atari os you have to try to force the 4K streaming, but in windows 10 you’re able to fully stream new game content in full 4K. Some of the best things about pc mode is this opens up the option for not only Xbox game pass streaming which has around 300+ game titles for $15 a month, but also allows you to download PlayStation now as well which you can get 800+ games streamed for $60 a year ...
The VCS can stream 4k video ok but not gaming. Note that for 4k video to stream you'll need to be in PC Mode and running a 4k file or native Netflix app stream as browsers have their own stream resolution limits.
Heck yeah, been having more fun than expected with it since Christmas. I'd say ignore the toxic internet behavior and see if YOU are having fun. Odds are you will. The launch lineup is really strong, the console works generally great outside of poor 4K and some controller connectivity issues (particularly when using non-Atari VCS controllers).
