Sep 10, 2021 · The battle for our thoughts is no doubt a reality and crucial to the victorious life of every individual. Taking our thoughts captive and making them obedient to God is a vital practice in the life of every Christ follower. But if we stop there, I believe we have missed THE ROOT of our struggle.

In 1965, Donald Grey Barnhouse wrote a book about it called The Invisible War. It is the battle for your mind, and that battle is vicious. It is intense. It is unrelenting, and it is unfair because Satan never plays fair. And the reason why it is so intense is that your greatest asset is your mind.
I have seen the face of mental illness. I have seen what it is like when people are unable to hear God because their minds are broken and cannot seem to connect to God even when they want to connect to God. And I know whatever gets your mind gets you. So one of the most important things we need to learn and teach others is how to guard, strengthen,...

The Greek word aichmaløtizø there means to control, to conquer, to bring into submission. We take captive. We make it submit. Every thought obedient to Christ. Make it obedient. Hupakøe means to bring into submission, to bring und...
I have been studying this subject for thirty-three years. I did my first study on the mind in 1977, working through all the books of the Bible. We navigate life within that battle most prominently in our minds. We are instructed to have “the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:16, ESV), but our day-to-day mental “home base” is often much more fearful, dark, and chaotic than the mind of Jesus.

These principles reveal how a wrong response to fear, worry, and anxiety can hinder our spiritual walk, and why we must take our fear, worry, and anxiety seriously as followers of Christ.
The battle we experience in our thoughts and emotions is often influenced by unseen forces. The enemy knows that if he can control our minds, he can control how we live. That’s why he works so hard to plant seeds of doubt, fear, and insecurity in our minds.
If we are going to battle fear, doubt, and discouragement, we must reject fear and worry. We must be “anxious for nothing.” We do this by recognizing our resources in God and enjoying his person.
