They are quiet similar in term of sound, but the Empyrean 2 is little bit warmer and more details. The design and build quality of the Meze is far better than the Hifiman. The Emyprean 2 is the upgraded version of the Arya Organic for me.

Meze Empyrean 2 (5128) Sony MDR-Z1R. The IER-Z1R is much better although it's not flawless, it has great bass but the mids are quite wonky and the treble is only good if you get a deep insertion. It's also very large and heavy and a very difficult fit for a lot of people.
Nov 30, 2023 · Meze Empyrean 2 displays a good balance between the size of the stage and the scale of the sounds. This transfers to a very natural listening experience, without the music seeming inflated or artificially stretched out.
