The Passion of Dionysus perfectly matches the grand romantic notions the album title evokes. Unlike Black Light, Bacchanalia Defeis roars, whispers, and screams in perfect balance.
Jul 4, 2023 · The Passion of Dionysus has a bit of a 1990’s Roland home studio patina. And, as Druhm points out in his reviews, the keyboards have a John Tesh-like ambiance that can take you out of your metal mindset. The bass is also problematic. It sounds like a fretless jazz player who got his gigs crossed. I was initially tempted to 4.0 this album.
Oct 12, 2023 · This album does have some good pacing sense though because then we get a nice short punchy Song of Possession. I love this song, 5/5 for me. It’s just a really solid power metal track. It’s fast and energetic, but more importantly it has really good vocal harmonies, and the piano as always lends a bit of depth that would be lacking otherwise.
Jul 20, 2023 · "Passion of Dionysus" is probably the best Virgin Steele album since Visions of Eden, maybe even better than that. The fact that singer David DeFeis doesn't have the vocal power as in the 90s should have become known by now - 40 years of heavy metal just leaves its traces. But he has learned to deal with the limitations and adapts his singing.

Jul 2, 2023 · Ironically, I have a good memory of the band. I mean, by magazines and other means. Unfortunately, it’s one band that I’ve never listened to an album or even a song. When I got “The Passion of Dionysus” I had absolutely no idea of what I would find. The thing is that I’m a little impressed by the album. The music in here is pure passion.
