Aug 6, 2019 · The literature suggests that teachers are increasingly exposed to violence on the part of students and/or their parents. Inappropriate and/or aggressive behavior like this can reduce a teacher’s occupational well-being and make it more difficult to build positive relationships in the classroom.
Exposure to violence for all students, including students with special needs can lead young people to attempt suicide and commit other acts of violence. When students, experience a traumatic event, the act may cause PTSD, ongoing feelings of concern for personal safety and the safety of others.
The results suggest that in order to improve well-being at work and decrease perceived violence, it is necessary to promote social support at school and levels of job control among teachers. The main messages from this report include: Prevalence of violence is high. Children face high levels of physical, psychological, and sexual violence in and around schools, with girls being more vulnerable to sexual violence and boys to physical violence by peers and corporal punishment by teachers.
