Jan 1, 2008 · Y the Last Man was basically my gateway book into indie comics. When this came out I was about 13-14 years old (There goes my age showing) and I was just getting into things like Ultimate Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men and more. And so when I picked up Y The last Man I had no clue what to expect but I was blown away.

Locke and Key - Lovecraftian dark fantasy/horror, full of heart-wrenching emotion and memorable characters. Ex Machina - by the author of Y: The Last Man, it chronicles the adventures of the world's only superhero, before and after he partially stops 9/11 from happening and becomes the mayor of New York City.
With full respect to all the other great books that Vaughan has written, I think Y: The Last Man is his best work and is one of my all-time favorite comics. This article could honestly be like one line long "Vaughan's best work to date, nuff said." I managed to get all 10 trades for $10 from a Facebook market post.
Most characters that I did care about got either killed or sidetracked, and the ending only cemented my opinion that "Y: The Last Man" is an interesting but ultimately very flawed attempt at milking the most out of a pretty unique concept. Reply reply. BigBortlesBrand. •.
