While discussing Babs in depth in our Hey Alma office Slack, as you do, the entire team realized something shocking: None of us had ever actually seen “Yentl.”.
A beautiful directorial debut. Yentl gives a good picture of Jewish life in the late 19th and early 20th Century. The rigid gender roles become the fodder of a gender-disguise comedy, but the writers don't present us the predictable romantic comedy ending.

However, from the very first speaking scenes, the movie is a joke. Everyone is speaking English in an Eastern European shtetl.
