Joel Miller (ジョエル・ミラー, Joeru Mirā), is both a fictional character and protagonist of the Last of Resident series created by Neil Druckmann and Shinji Mikami. He was a morally ambiguous figure who is determined to survive no matter what against a virus.
He was a survivor in America that has been ravaged by the TCA-Virus infection, which has decimated 60% of mankind globally. Though he is an incredibly violent, cynical, ruthless and ethically sketchy man, he is not completely without positive traits or heroic moments.
He eventually was tasked with smuggling, protecting, and looking out consistently for the well-being of Ellie, a young girl he travels with is the key to mankind's survival. In essence he eventually came to form a strong bond with her and became a father figure to his her.
