It’s right at the base of Mount Maunganui and on the opposite side of busy Maunganui Beach. Only a 5-10 minute walk from the main beach is Moturiki Islandor as it’s more commonly known Leisure Island. It’s right across from Maunganui (there’s a man-made land bridge to walk along) and this is a wild and beautiful place that’s a protected nature reserve. I really like walking around to the north side of the island to see the blowhole that shoots water high up into the air during big swells and high tides.
