Dec 7, 2019 · I went to Provo Canyon School for around 8 months, AMA. I was sent to a RTC (residential treatment center) in Springville, Utah, known as Provo Canyon School, or PCS. It is famous for mistreatment of students, however most of the accounts are outdated. Some things have changed, however, things are still really bad there.
Provo Canyon is just as bad now as it was when I went 8 years ago. They denied me access to food, gaslighted me like crazy, forced me to sleep in the same room as girls who'd physically assaulted me and threatened to kill me, lied to my parents when I tried to tell them about the abuse, and the "therapy" was a thirty min session once a week with a woman who actively made things worse.
Dec 2, 2023 · Honestly, Provo Canyon was almost certainly (like 99.9999+%) your parents' idea. School districts basically never (I'm sure it happens very, very rarely) recommend nonpublic options, especially residentials. It's extremely expensive, and is a major hit to the district's budget (even if the district is large and well-funded).

Oct 9, 2020 · Utah Department of Children and Family Services contracts with Provo Canyon School. The school also contracts with California and Washington D.C., in addition to accepting private clients, including those funded by school districts and Medicaid. The place that used to trap kids in an temperature control isolation cell upon entry that was created by the doctor that was running the program for his own experimental research? It was inevitable given how they treat patients. Unfortunately people will use this article to justify institutions instead of questioning conditions.
Sep 16, 2021 · I was a patient at Provo Canyon School in 2016. I was fortunate to have a short time there due to insurance reasons but during my time there I endured and witnessed devastating abuse and neglect. I’d love to speak on my story more but for right now, I want to a have space for others who have had similar experiences at PCS to talk to each other and speak out.
Jan 15, 2021 · Edit: My question is not an invalidation of her experience. I am a survivor of a religious boarding school for troubled teens. My parents were conned out 84,000 for my three and a half year stay. I experienced religious conversion therapy (along with many others.) I was not using drugs or drinking (that came later).
Jan 19, 2022 · Thats the most messed up part of this. I dont think these kinds of schools that have so much control over children should exist. All these places are mormon mini-cults.
