Ramapada Chowdhury (28 December 1922 – 29 July 2018) [1] was a Bengali-language novelist and short story writer in India. For his novel Bari Badle Jay, he received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988. [2] He was also a recipient of the Rabindra Puraskar and several other awards.

Jul 30, 2018 · Acclaimed Bengali writer Ramapada Chowdhury (95), whose story ‘Abhimanyu’ was made into a Hindi movie ‘Ek doctor ki maut’, has passed away in Kolkata, West Bengal on July 29, 2018. ‘Abhimanyu’ was based on the life and work of Dr Subhas Mukhopadhyay who created India’s first and the world’s second test-tube baby in 1978.
