Renovated in 2021, the Thomas Taggart Memorial Amphitheater hosts events, concerts, and performance at Riverside Regional Park. Named after former Indianapolis Mayor Thomas Taggart who oversaw the early creation of Indy’s park and boulevard network, the original Amphitheater was built in 1931.

Riverside Regional Park, established in 1903, is the second-largest park in Indianapolis with 862-acres of parkland uniquely located along both banks of the White River on Indy’s near West side.
Together with the Central White River trail, residents can do a full loop around the entire eastern portion of Riverside Park. The Promenade is perfect for a bike ride, a run, or a casual walk with others. Nodes throughout the trail highlight the history of Riverside and the City of Indianapolis.
Most parks are managed by the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation, also known as Indy Parks. In 2020, there were 212 city parks, [1] four state-owned parks, and numerous privately-managed parks, plazas, gardens, and nature preserves.
Riverside’s new uses include an ecology-based adventure park, featuring constructed wetlands and a canopy walk, cyclocross and mountain bike courses, and a bike park, urban farm, disc golf course and nature center.
