The TV shows here are unique because while there are recorded shows, it also includes commercials and government proceedings, something you won't find on most streaming sites. The majority of the "normal" TV shows are found in the Classic TV section, but there's also TV Ads, Classic TV Commercials, 1950s Classic TV, Saturday Night Live, Children's ...

Once you're on a streaming page, downloading is as simple as finding the DOWNLOAD OPTIONS section. Once there, pick from one of the file formats. Most videos are available in the MP4, MPEG, and OGV formats, as well as through a torrent file.

Video quality varies because anyone can upload movies here. However, most of them are completely watchable.

Unfortunately, there isn't an official app for watching videos from Internet Archive. The only app from the company is for a different part of their website that has nothing to do with video streaming. However, there are plenty of other streaming services that let you access their free movie collections on the go.

    • Let’s Scare Jessica to Death (Hancock, 1971) This comes in at number one partly because it’s a very creepy and atmospheric psychological vampire film, but also it’s been hard to find for many years, only turning up recently on Blu-ray (which costs £30 to buy).
    • The Seven Samurai (Kurosawa, 1954) I could do a top twenty films just on Japanese cinema on the Internet Archive – there’s a bunch of Kurosawa, Ōshima and Ozu – but this influential classic is a good place to start.
    • Daisies (Chytilová, 1966) Off-beat, anarchic feminist Czech film featuring two girls and a lot of food.
    • Onibaba (Shindô, 1964) Another Japanese film. I’ve loved this one for decades (it’s in my top 100 films), a dark, erotic and symbolic horror film about a woman and her daughter-in-law who kill samurai and sell their belongings for a living.
