The attention to detail on the iconic form factor, the feel of the switches, the ease of use, etc. I have a good amount of mostly common 2600 (ntsc) atari/activision/imagic cartridges from back in the day and they all worked out of the box.
You buy it for the fancy retro 2600 case made by a company that bought Atari's brand and IP. Other than that, it is DRM-protected emulation that requires you to take the extra steps to own or hunt down 40+ year old cartridges to whatever game you want to play. Hence the recent price increase and interest in Atari carts.
