Dec 22, 2023 · The ILCA 6 / Radial Sail Area is 5.76m2. ILCA 7 / Standard MKII Is recommended for 65kg+ Crew weight. The ILCA 7 / Standard MKII Sail Area is 7.6m2. Just remember this is only a guide. Most sailing clubs have club boats you can try and get a feel before you buy a boat or rig.
Should I buy a Laser or an ILCA? If you aren’t going to race your boat, a lower-priced LaserPerformance Laser is a great choice. We’re expecting our next shipment of new Lasers in early 2021. If you are going to race or if you’d like to have the option to eventually sell your boat to a racer, then you should consider an ILCA.
If your weight is closer to the shoulders (most males) the radial would probably be fine under most circumstances. If your weight is farther down (most females) and/or your are limited in your ability to hike out hard, the 4.7 would be a safe choice.
