Ok try this: make a wooden platform of wood blocks that is 5 tiles wide, and build 12 tiles up on the sides with platforms and complete the last side with platforms too. Place a crafting table and chair on the inside. Stand on the crafting table and count three tiles starting from where your feet are. Place walls in a line there.
I used to make infinite housing then prisons. Then I used LUIAFK's prison maker to save time (my modded playthroughs have SO MANY NPCS) and now I use a mod "Start with base" that lets me start with an npc hotel pre-built made out of materials I like.
