- Pencils and Erasers. Pencils and erasers are number ONE on my college supply list because of the daily use you’ll get out of them. While pens may be your preferred writing utensil, you’ll need at least one pencil for filling out scantrons.
- Black/Blue and Red Ink Pens. These may seem like banal items, but red and black pens have come in clutch for me on more than one occasion! From peer editing to writing notes, they have their uses.
- Highlighters or Mildliners. It’s no surprise that highlighters/mildliners are another item worth taking to college. There will be lots of homework and reading – you’ll be glad you have these when it’s crunch time.
- Binder/s or Accordion Folder/s. Another thing I recommend having on a college supply list for freshman is: Either a binder or an accordion folder. Both are a great way to keep track of and organize papers for class.

Another item to have on your college school supply list is a pen…maybe more than one because you will lose them. Again, some professors have some serious beef against laptops. Get a pack of pens that you can use to take notes. My favorite pens are the G-2 Pilot Pens. I used them throughout college and still do at my job.

Another school supply for college that you need to stay organized is a folder. Folders came in handy when my professors used to hand out tons of papers.
Back up your files, please. Flash drive sounds so old. Just figure out a way to back up your stuff. I used to have a 1 TB for all my files. It’s a bit more expensive, but it’ll last forever (or until you run out of space).
Sticky notes were my thing in college, especially for online classes and reading long texts. They were more useful than I expected. I used them to write down my daily to-do lists. I recommend getting some to help with both studying and organization.
